Wisdom Teeth Extraction: 4 Tips to Help You Feel More at Ease
June 9, 2025

When your wisdom teeth start emerging, they might spell trouble for your oral health. They are the last set of teeth to emerge and sometimes erupt at the wrong angle, which can leave you with continuous pain or pressure. A wisdom teeth extraction may not seem like the most ideal solution, but it can ensure your oral health stays strong.
Your dental team will work hard to make you as comfortable as possible, but some anxiety is still normal. Instead of letting these fears stop you from getting relief, here are four ways that can help reduce your stress.
1.) Listen to Your Favorite Music
A great way to get some relief and comfort is to listen to your favorite music. You can listen to soothing classical tunes or energetic rock music. Whichever you choose, music can help relieve any stress and anxiety, which might make the wisdom teeth extraction a little easier for you.
2.) Do Some Breathing Exercises
When it’s time to sit in your dentist’s chair, make sure you get comfortable. Afterward, take some deep breaths to help calm yourself down. Many people like to either close their eyes or focus on a single spot in the room and go through some breathing exercises.
For instance, you can breathe in for four counts, hold it for a count of four, and let it out slowly for six counts. Doing this calms you down at a biological level by signaling your body to relax your muscles.
3.) Have a Trusted Person Come with You
Sometimes, all it takes is having someone cheer you on to make you feel better about a procedure. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or significant other, having someone on your side in the waiting room can give you greater confidence and comfort! Even after the procedure, they can help you get home and rest. That way, you can focus on the healing journey to come.
4.) Bring Something to Ease Your Nerves
Bringing a stress-relieving item with you to your appointment can help give you some relief. A small blanket, stress ball, or another similar object might reduce your tension or apprehension, so you can get the treatment you need. Be sure to talk to your dentist about using or holding onto one of these items during your visit.
Thankfully, there are many ways to help you feel more comfortable about visiting the dentist and undergoing any dental treatment. Wisdom teeth extractions are no exception! Try any one of these tips or another one that works for you, so you can feel more confident about the oral healthcare you need.
