Thus, you want to know the cost of dental implants being inserted to replace your missing teeth. You’d also like an explanation of what the different parts of the procedure are. As you continue reading, find the answers you’ve been looking for!

What is a Dental Implant?

To gain an understanding of how a dental implant functions, think about the roots of your teeth. One of their jobs is to act as anchors that hold each tooth within the bone and ligament that surrounds it.

If the root is dissolved from advanced decay or there is sudden trauma, the tooth can eventually fall out. The purpose of the dental implant, then, is to mimic nature by recreating the original structure using a titanium post that is affixed to the underlying jawbone.

Step #1 – The Initial Placement

In its entirety, the dental implant process can take up to six months to complete, but it all starts with the insertion of the implant. After this part of the process is completed, the person is given time to sufficiently heal.

For this stage of the procedure, the price variance can be vast. It can range from $500 to $10,000, depending on the number of teeth missing and the complexity of the care needed.

Step #2 – Adding the Abutment

The next step in the process is the abutment placement. Also made of sturdy titanium, it screws into the implant and allows a final restoration to be attached. Thus, you won’t have to worry about your replacement fixture moving around or shifting.

The cost range for the abutment can be from $500 to $1,500.

Step #3 – The Final Restoration

The dental implant process isn’t complete until you’re in a position to lead a normal life again. That comes with the placement of a restoration, which is the final piece of the puzzle.

If you only have one missing tooth, then you’ll need a porcelain crown. For three or more consecutive teeth, there is the bridge option. Then, dentures are available to replace an entire arch or a full set of teeth.

The average cost for a final restoration will range from $500 for a crown to up to $2,500 for a set of dentures.

Are Implants Worth the Investment?

When it comes to longevity, the dental implant is in a class of its own. Because of its secure placement, it can last up to a lifetime if cared for properly.

Most importantly, the implants should be cared for just like natural teeth, which should include brushing and flossing a minimum of two times a day. Finally, it’s vital to maintain regular preventive care visits to the dentist for cleanings and examinations. By taking these proactive measures, you’ll be able to maintain a healthy and beautiful smile.
